We’re really pleased to be welcoming Martyn King to Stephen Eve Financial Planning in October.

Martyn joins us as Client Administrator and with a background in charity management and data entry, he brings plenty of organisational skills, attention to detail and experience working with people. We’re excited to have him on board.

We like to give you a chance to get to know the people who make up our team, so we’ve asked Martyn a few questions to find out a little more about him, his career, and what he gets up to outside of work.

Tell us a bit about your background, how did you get to where you are now professionally?

My professional path has been a scenic route driven by a love for people, analytical detail, and adventure! I started my career in retail before working as an Outdoor Activity Instructor. Guiding young people through climbing, caving, and abseiling taught me meticulous planning, clear communication, and duty of care.

My journey took a life-changing turn when my wife, Hanna, and I fell in love with Malawi. In 2021, we converted a camper van, travelled around the country, and co-founded The Imago Foundation, an international charity focused on holistic education, health through nutrition, and environmental protection.

Alongside the charity, I’ve managed humanitarian aid data for the NGO Insecurity Insight and coordinated transport for SEN children with 24x7 Ltd.

Having completed my CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, I’m thrilled to bring this blend of real-world experience, analytical skills, and genuine desire to help people to the team at Stephen Eve.

Why did you choose Stephen Eve Financial Planning?

I firmly believe financial advice should be built entirely around the client’s best interests: transparent, human, and completely free of complex jargon. When looking for a firm that genuinely lives that philosophy, Stephen Eve immediately stood out.

After meeting Ben and Danielle, it was clear that their values align perfectly with my own. They deliver on their purpose through a personal, family-run approach, truly independent advice, and a disciplined, evidence-based investment philosophy.

Joining the team was an easy decision because I know I will get great job satisfaction doing work I believe in alongside people who put clients first.

What would you like to achieve in your new role with us?

I want to get to know clients and remove their financial stress so they can do the things they care about in life without worrying when they hear news about the economy or changes to tax rules. For me, success will be reflected in the feedback and reviews from clients.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

I’ve been fortunate to have supportive family, friends and colleagues throughout my life. My time in Scouting, both as a child and young adult, taught me the value of hard work, while working alongside my wife, both as colleagues and as charity co-founders, has helped develop my attention to detail.

Tell us a work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?

There are two achievements I’m particularly proud of. On a personal level, working with young people and seeing the difference it can make has been really rewarding. One example was supporting a group of primary-aged young carers with low confidence to take part in an abseil, and seeing the boost in their self-belief afterwards.

Professionally, I’m proud to have completed the CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, which has given me a strong foundation as I begin my career in financial advice.

Can you give us a bit of an insight into your life outside of work? What are your interests?

My wife and I have recently settled in Newark. Our lives used to be a bit more chaotic while travelling around Malawi and establishing our charity, but we’ve really enjoyed building a steady routine here. We both like to stay active and try new activities.

We enjoy regular walks and recently took up Boogie Bounce (fitness on mini-trampolines). We also love problem-solving and puzzles, whether that’s escape rooms, treasure hunts, Sudoku, or watching The 1% Club.

Of course, spending quality time with friends and family over meals, drinks, or trips away is always a highlight.

One thing you've learned in the past year: either professionally or personally!

A healthy lifestyle equals a great retirement. I’ve learned how important it is to focus on health span alongside wealth. That includes spending quality time with friends and family, staying active, eating well, and engaging with your local community.

Taking care of your physical and social wellbeing gives you the best foundation to truly enjoy your retirement years when they come around.
